HOW TO PROPERLY MEASURE YOUR HEAD FOR A CUSTOM HAT

You will need: soft measuring tape, pen, papper, phone, and an assistant!

Step One

Place one finger horizontal staring at the top of your eyebrows. Place one or two fingers horizontal starting at the top of your ear. Find your occipital bone in the middle of the back of your head. The three spots is where you want your hat to sit on your head.

Step Two

Take the soft measuring tape and connect all three spots!

Start with the end of the measuring tape on your forehead and wrap it all the way around your head and back to your forehead, connecting the above spots on you head. You want to wrap the measuring tape firmly but being able to move the tape slightly up and down on your head.

Step Three

Take a picture of that measurement and write it down in inches.

Step Four

Keep the measuring tape in the same spot and put a finger underneath the tape to create a little bit of space. Take a picture and write that measurement down in inches.

Step Five

Please take a picture of the top of your head, side, back and front with the tape measure on so we can get a better view of your head shape along with the height of your forehead to size your hat. Text us the pictures along with your measurements at 512-541-0941 or email us austin@aspenhatter.com!

Please note

Wrapping the measuring tape too tight around your head without being able to slide the tape slightly up and down creates a tight fitting hat that can cause headaches or red marks on your forehead.

Wrapping the measuring tape too loose creates a hat that does not stay on your head.

What shape is my head?

~ Take note of the shape of your head based on other hats you've tried on.

For example: Do you notice that non-custom hats usually have too much space on the sides, too tight in the front and back? This means you are a long oval shape. We will customize the shape of your head as best as we can.

How to Care for your Custom Hat

What is my hat made from?

All of our custom hats are made of 100% beaver felt.

How to take my hat on and off?

It is best to take your hat on and off using the crown; the top part of your hat. By using the brim of your hat it can take on the shape of where you grab your hat on the brim.

How do I store my hat?

We suggest keeping your hat out of your vehicle as the heat and direct sunlight can reshape, fade, and possibly shrink/tighten your hat. You can hang your hat or lay it flat depending on your brim style. If the brim of your hat is not flat we suggest turning your hat upside down on the crown. If your going to hang your hat make sure one side of the brim is not pressing against the wall as over time it may take on a different shape.

Can I get my hat wet?

Yes! Beaver felt is water-repellent and naturally waterproof. If you immerse your hat for an extended period of time, your hat may need reshaping of the brim and a little touch-up.

What do I do if my hat gets dirty?

You can use a horse hair or hat brush for occasional use to brush off dirt and dust. You can use a light sticky tape to get the lint off. We do sell horse hair hat brushes in-store and online on our shop page.

Can I get my hat reshaped?

If your hat was made by Aspen Hatter and needs reshaping and a touch over time, we will be happy to oblige.

How long will it take for my hat to be made?

Currently, we have about a 1 to 2 month waiting period. This is based on current orders and the availability of materials.
